Me and my group are reading the Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. I decided on this book because my mom said it was good and she said it was good. Also everyone in my group already has this book.

I am reading Crocodile Tears by Anthony Horowitz. The book is about a teenager named Alex Rider who works for MI6 in Britain. This book is the newest in a series all about the same person. I am reading this book because I have read the others in this series.

Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
It is about a girl who is put under a spell that turns her into an old woman. She then goes and lives with a feared magician to try and have the spell taken off. I love the movie, and I really wanted to read the book and see if it is similar, and I already read a few pages and there are different things that aren't in the movie but add more depth.

I am reading A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah with Anneka. This book is a memoir about a young boy soldier who goes to war. He was 12 when he went to war and he was surrounded by a lot of violence. I wanted to read this book because it sounded really interesting and I enjoy reading and writing memoirs.

I am reading "The Mistress of Spices" by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. I chose this book because I had already bought it so I might as well read it and I think its going to be a fun read. It is about an immortal woman named Tilo who travels back in time to Oakland, CA to open a spice shop. Should be good... I think its cool that Brendan is reading a book called "Crocodile Tears."

I am reading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, because of a recommendation by Mr. Hodara. It is a classic scifi about the future and what it may be like.

@ Kyla. saw the movie and always wondered if it followed the book, please tell me how it is and if it is worth reading.

Nicholai Whiticar is reading a long way gone. It is about a twelve year old child forced to join a child army, in which they do crack and other bad drugs. It is extremely chaotic. Nicholai heard this book was interesting and entertaining. Oh cool Angelique you're reading it to. Maybe we can discuss the book together! Cool so excited!! Yahaahah. I <3 reading!!

Ashley Cooper and I are reading "The Last Song" by Nicholas Sparks. Its a good read we have heard and hopefully its full of emotion. This book discusses the divorce in a familythat has a teenage daughter and a young son. The children live for a summer out with their father in North Carolina and discover the importance of family values as well as their own talents.

I am reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It's about a girl named Liesel who lives in Germany during the Holocaust and falls in love with books. My aunt gave it to me as a Christmas present and said it was one of her favorites!

- Tristan, I read Into Thin Air and it was very well written.

- Blaec, I never read Kite Runner, but I heard it was a really good book. I would like to hear about it after you're finished.

I'm reading a Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. The story is about life in London and Paris during the french revolution. It's a classic, and people seem to like it, and quote it often.

BRStoner said...

Tristan- Into thin Air is good, but a little slower paced than Into the Wild, However it still has Jon Krakauer's signature writing style.

Blaec's Group- The Kite Runner is a great book. It is fast paced and interesting. The movie is good as well.

I chose to read The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson. Its about a 17 year old girl who has just woken up after being in a comma for over a year. She does not remember a lot of things that happened before her comma includeing the accident that caused it. I chose this book because of the struggle that Jenna must face as she tries to put together the puzzle pieces of her old life.

Amanda said...

-Tristan, i agree with Buzz about Into Thin Air. It was a good book, but sort of slow.

Amanda said...

To everyone reading A Long Way Gone, I've heard that it is a very good book. Enjoy!

Amanda said...

-Kyla, your book sounds very whimsical. It seems like a book you would enjoy. :)

I'm reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett, about three women living in the south in the 1960's. It's written from the three different perspectives and good so far. I chose it because my mom was reading it on our trip, and I read a few pages and liked it. Before I could get any farther, she gave it away to a family friend that we visited, so when I saw it in the library I picked up where I left off.

Laura said...

Kelsey: You know my love for the Book Thief already, but I will say it again that it's absolutely AMAZING. You're going to love it!

Tristan: My mom has read Into Thin Air at least four times, she loves it. It's supposed to be really good

I am reading One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The book is a classic, written about the rise and fall of the Buendia family. The book deals with issues of love, death, war, peace, youth and age. I am only a few pages into it, but it is outstanding so far. I chose the book for a few reasons. It came highly reccomended from my Mom, as well as Mr. Hodara. Furthermore, it is something I have wanted to read for a while.

Sage - A Brave New World is a great book. It's really exciting, slightly freaky and twisted, but really great. It is one of my favorite books. I think you will really enjoy it.

The Kite Runner Group (Julia, Makenna, Blaec etc.): The Kite Runner is incredible. Like Buzz said the movie is also great, but the book is fast moving, very sad, but really wonderful.

Jessica- Marley and me is a super cute book! :D
Kelsey- The Book Thief is really good, although sometimes confusing it all makes sense eventually!

I want to read NewJack, by Ted Conover. It's a nonfiction book about a writer who becomes a prison guard at Sing Sing prison. I really thought this looked interesting when my dad recommended it and it also has won many awards. It also would be different for me because I usually don't read nonfiction.

I switched books and this is my new blog entry, but that's why I have two

A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah is a memoir about the struggle of a twelve year old boy who is forced to become a soldier during the wars in Africa. I am reading it along with Ariana, and I wanted to read this book because the thought of being a small child who is forced into war seems very intriguing and interesting.

daughter of fortune by Isabel Allende. Eliza is a young girl raised by a wealthy family in Chile. she follows her lover to San Francisco during the gold rush.

I am reading Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. It is the mystery of the murder of a girl that was covered up almost 40 years ago (before the book was set). It is set in Sweden, and it has a wide group of characters that are relatable. It is not about one main character, but it switches around to about 6 different people. I have heard from many different people and sources that it is a really good book and one that you cant put down.

Kelsey- The Book Thief is really good!

I am reading "What is the What" by Dave Eggers, and it is the story of an African refugee and his struggles. It looks interesting and I like these kind of books.

The Kite Runner and A Long Way Gone are two of my favorite books because they are both based on true stories and you will probably get something out of reading these books.
