Frankenstein Journal 2/4/09

Victor Frankenstein discovers the secret of life and uses this knowledge to create a sentient being. Imagine that you have discovered some previously thought-to-be-impossible technique or ability. What would you create? Describe your creation and tell why you came up with this idea. Respond to two other people’s creations. Early responders, please come back to respond to your classmates’ creations. No inappropriate responses, please.

If I had the power to do anything, I would create an internal GPS system that can keep track of specific individuals you have chosen. This system would allow you to keep track of the other persons health and location. For example, if you were in Hawaii, and one of your "chosen" family members was having an emergency in New York, an internal alarm would sound in your brain, and you could call help for them. Also, if you do not want to be tracked, you can always block off the tracking device, using other internal forces in your mind.

Stacy! I love your idea! It would totally help people in every day life AND people in crime investigation professions! It would also make parents feel WAY safer when their kids go out around home or away at college.
If I had the power---I would make a Magical, Mystical, aMazing fax machine that would allow people to fax actual objects and people rather than just paper. We could fax ourselves to anywhere in the world and we could fax food over to places that have just suffered extreme hardships. Moving to another house or another state would be so much easier because we could just fax all of our belongings. Woohoo!

Stacy, that idea is amazing! Not only would it be handy in emergency situations but also for smaller issues, like trying to find a friend's house. It would be SO cool if you could also have a GPS in everyday items (ie: car keys, cell phone, brush)! Nothing could ever get lost.
Nicole, AMAZING! That way we could fax people to send messages instead of paper thus saving paper thus saving the world... Your goal in life.

For my invention I’d create a telaporter! By stepping into the telaporter one could not only transport from one area to another in a matter of seconds (ie: home to school) but also from one time period to another (ie: 2009 to 1980). This invention would save time during the day that would usually be spent in transportation and would save gas. We would all also be able to experience every time period, one of my greatest desires.

Nicole, that would be so useful sometimes, especially in situations such as, leaving your homework at home, etc. Similarly, Alecia, your idea would be extremely useful, and exciting. You could gain a first hand experience of historical events, as well as a more well rounded knowledge of the past.
But, both of these inventions do have a downfall. Especially considering this time where technology seems to be taking over most labor intensive jobs, these could just be more devices that make us, as a human species, more lazy, and unwilling to "get our hands dirty" sometimes.

Stacy Stacy Stacy---so true! It would further our world's (maybe just nation's) journey to absolute numb, lazy, blobness...
Alecia---my childhood dream when I was little was always to travel through time! So basically I hope you create your invention supah-soon!

i love the telaporter idea, time travel and all. no more waiting at the airport or wasting layover time on vacations.

i think the "impossible technique" I'd like to create is super-speed, like Flash. Maybe by somehow studying genetics, scientists could enhance some gene and make a person super fast. We could run to a friend's house or school instead of wasting fossil fuels, while also working out. it could pose problems about carrying things from place to place, but it would still be cool and useful.

Wow I really like all of your ideas girls! Stacy, your invention could decrease the amount of crime in the world, which we really need right now. I was looking at some sites and I discovered the Radio Frequency Identification that is implanted into the human, like the tracker, but it stores all the medical information of a patient. Is there where you got your idea from?
Our world is corrupted as it is and with Alecia's invention, we could go back in time to see what we did wrong in the past and possibly change them? Other than that, Nicole your invention will be amazing but like what Stacy and Alecia said, it will isolate people even more.
In the future, I would like to see some improvement in the amount of waste we create. So for my invention, all waste of any kind would be converted into some organic matter using a small bug like creature that converts the waste into something environmental friendly. We are consuming more than we can put away and if we continue this path, the planet will be covered in trash.

Well I really like the ideas of everyone so far. The GPS would really help our world. And the fax machine could be very useful in our lives today.
If I could create anything, I would make it so that we have the ability to fly. Flying would be better for our environment. If we could fly we wouldn't need cars, so the amount of gas we use would go down. Not only would it be amazing to fly, but also we could help save the earth.

Like many have said, I too would want to create a way to travel through time. But instead of travelling through history create a path to the future. Assuming the future would be changeable; humans could foresee events and have the opportunity to alter them. This would be achieved by somehow capturing the speed of light and using it to leave the earth and return at another time in the future. The device would be a huge solar panel built around a spherical, hollow magnetic compartment where a human could fit into and be safe from the forces of the universe. The globe would take in the sun or other star's rays and immediately convert them into energy to power the machine at the speed of light. Through the universe it would fly and soon return to earth in the future. The machine would then retrace its path using the magnetic part which has an electronic memory built in to memorize the various forces that had pulled and pushed the globe in its travel and with that information be able to return to earth. The possibilities to prevent disasters and human suffering would be endless; nevertheless this power would very likely be abused. Countries could foresee attacks in the future and start an aggression in the present, and this is just one of the dangers of my creation. Because of the great potential for catastrophe, the “future globe” would have to be contained and only used for specific purposes that have been agreed upon by the leaders of every nation. To ensure this, a program would be installed in the device that analyzes the purpose for the trip and only ignites for departure if the purpose is beneficial for all people, not those of a certain nation, wealth, religious or any other distinctions. The globe, then, would have a built in computer and internet up to date with the condition of all humans in the present. If properly used the “future globe” could be the solution to many problems plaguing people today.

i think that nicoles idea is a pritty good one. to be able to faxs objects would save gas and eliminate the slow mailing process. I think that if I had the magical powers i would do something similar to nicoles. I would make a teliportation thing that could fit in your pocket. or maybe make it into a watch and in a snap of a finger it could bring you any were around the world and even the moon. it would be very environmentally friendly and help to save alot of elements used in cars and planes and stuff.

first off i dont know if thwe first one i did in b block worked, plus it wasnt me who wrote it because someone, who will remain anonymous, stole my computer and wrote it.

i like alecia's time travel idea, but doesnt that make it so that we could ruin our future by changing too much in the past. its like the grandfather paradox. maybe if we were able to go back but we could not change anything or asomething.

i also like allicia i's super speed idea. if we could all run like usain bolt i would be sooo happy. but it would also be cool if we were all super athletic like kg or lebron james.

if i could make an invention i would make a machine that could stop time. this way if you are in school with no free time and want to do homework or sleep, or even go home and eat food and relax, you could simply stop time and go do it. you would also be able to stop time and have your friends stop time with you so that you could all go to the beach or something. the only problem with this though is that everyone might start stopping time and no one would ever live life in real time, but we would all be stuck in some wierd never ending school that never let out.

I think if I were to create something, I would have to make it look super cool, firstoff. I would create the perfect man. Of course, we all know there's no such thing, but if there were a remote to control him, that would be very cool. Brainwashing, maybe, but at least he'd do the higher sex's bidding. No but really, I'm just trying to think of something useful that's never been created before. Ummm....Yeah, I think I'd create a remote of some kind to communicate with others. Not necessarily the remote to control men, but just a remote that had buttons like ESP so you could communicate with friends without having to say anything. It'd be quite useful if someone's in a tight spot. The remote would be kind of like a magic wand, I guess. (I'm being peer-pressured into keeping my original idea and not delete it-- I hope nobody takes that seriously :D ).

Oh crud I forgot to comment on the other people's ideas. Sorry! I'm so spastic right now. I really like Nicole's idea-- That would be so awesome and extremely useful.
They're all good ideas; the teleporter, the GPS, ability to run like the Flash (DC comics!)... Everything

I love Leilani's idea. It would help save the planet and keep it beautiful. And I also love Alecia's idea. I would love to visit different time periods (I would love to meet Queen Elizabeth I).

If I had the power to invent anything I would invent a machine that would tell the United States when they were being stupid with things like the economy or international affairs, and then tell them what to do to keep us from a recession or from terrorists.

I think that Nicoles and Alecias ideas are great!! Who wouldn't want to be able to send things or go places in a matter of seconds!! That would save so much gas and also we wouldnt have the problem of gas polluting our air.
If I could make anything, I would make a machine that could give you anything you want. Such as money, food, clothes. Being able to receive these things would be great! Having money whenever you wanted it would be awesome! I would never be mad or sad about not getting anything because I could always have it at the palm of my hand!

I suppose the best thing in the world that I could possibly create is, well, a clone of myself, because I'm super cool. I could also get a lot more things done if you want to get technical, as I can literally be in two different places at once. Also I'd need to manufacture some sort of device that would link our thoughts together whenever needed, like a mainframe where we'd hook ourselves up to or something so there would be no struggle over who would be the dominant Trevor. I love my ego.
Everyone seems to love time travel but I'd rather it that we could pause time because the possibilities with that are endless. Also, I beleive Noe's invention with the remote that enables one to communicate with friends and such was created and aptly named the "cell-phone." I thought that was funny so I had to mention that.

Everyone has such great ideas! I personally think it would be awesome to have a time travel machine but I think it would mess up everything. If you really think about it, people would stop making mistakes. Alicia, Nicole, and Marcs invention will be sick if you were the only one with it but if you didnt you would be the only one making mistakes. Do you really want a world of perfect people? We learn from our mistakes and without them we wouldnt really learn. I also believe that people wouldnt get anything done because they would be so focused on going back and fixing what was wrong, instead of living. The special thing about a past is that you can forget about it. Also you can do dumb stuff and say it was because of bad judgment at the time and get away with it.
I would love to have a portion of the moon or outer space to become a vacation resort. Imagine activities like zero gravity soccer or using spray can as jet propellers. Just think of the spectacular view! You might even befriend an alien.

The teleporter ideas of Alecia and Diana are quite intriguing. The only problem i have with them is that what if something happened and some minute thing we did when we were visiting forever changed their world of the past or future? It would create a butterfly effect forever changing our world as well.
I would create a device that stimulates the less active brain areas in order to bestow the user into clear or universal understanding of the human condition. This would ease the more difficult times in ones life, making it easier to achieve the great pursuits such as happiness, romance, success, or fame. On a situational basis, we as human beings are hindered by the simplistic and selfish handicaps of the mind such as greed and being egotistical. Expanding our use of our brain would allow us to retain more knowledge further advancing mankind. With unlocking our mysterious unused brain cells who knows what kinds of possibilities could happen. We could learn to levitate, read minds, teleport, predict the future, who knows. But would these things be advancement or a burden?

Chad said...

I think that everyone's idea concerning the teleporter is good and all but I think that could infringe heavily on peoples privacy.

If i were to discover or create something thought to be impossible it would be something to allow humans see microscopic organisms and objects far far off in space. This would allow us to conduct research without the use of microscopes and machines, all we have to do is use the teleporters everyone created and do our own natural observation.

I really like leilani's waste converting thing, we need to figure this out before we can do anything. I also really like the travel/teleporting devices such as diana's, that was awesome and so detailed it started to make sense.

All of these ideas are sick, I want to do them all so i guess ill do this. I would make a training program that teaches people how to convert sunlight into whatever they need and convert their waste and the earth's pollution back into energy. I would work witha wide range of leading physicists, scientists, and others to help me develope this and ultimately be able to teach people how to convert themselves into energy of a higher frequency to that they can go and do whatever they want whenever they want. Hopefully when people notice how everyone and everything is energy then they would be more compassionate.

There are a lot of great ideas. Personally I really like alecia's idea about the teleporter that can travel through space and time. I also like Diana's ideas about the time traveler thing. I think that if these things could be used properly there would be alot of potential. If i could create anything i would probably make some sort of teleporter or human flight machine, but for the sake of originality i would probably find a way so that people could easily enter dream states and be able to set it up so that you could chose what you want to dream about before hand. The problem with this is that people might find that they like the dream states better than every day life because they could be whatever they want. This could also be used to create something similar to the matrix with everyone plugged into the machine. This could probably be used a a very good therapeutic technique

If I had access to unlimited knowledge, I would create a device that would use a camera to record what it sees and create a 3D environment. All you would have to do is walk around with this thing, and point it in every orientation. It would use its camera to automatically calculate points in real space and recreate them digitally in a full 3D photograph. This would be very useful, because if you got a few people with these devices synchronized, you could take a full 3D rendition; a three-dimensional photograph essentially, of any scene.

The teleporter is a good idea, but like Chad said it would be interfering with others. I think the ability to fly would be great. I love the sky and I love flying.

If I had the ability to create anything, I would create a robotic system controled by a human. Kind of like a exoskeleton with human abilities, but also with abilities to do things such as fly, drive like a vehicle, etc. Kind of like a transformer for humans.

Ok first off Noe-i laughed out loud at your lovely fabulous amazing invention! hahaha i especially love the part where you said, "im just trying to think of something useful that's never been created before."
hahaha fully saying that a perfect man has never been invented! haha i love it!!!!
Zech--I like how you spoke about how yours would help with the consumption of energy and gas. I'm kinda impressed that most everyone's inventions have to do with saving energy and helping our mama earth... haha it must be from alllll of those Sustainability Leap Days that we all love so much

All of these creations would make my life soooo much easier and more enjoyable. If I could do all that stuff I'd be soooo happy. I kinda like Kaile's idea of being able to enter a dream like state of mind without having to induce drugs to be able to. Flying's pretty cool too.

If I could make something seemingly impossible real, i would create a real imagination-land. Here, everyone would be happy and would show their true emotions, and would be able to do anything they wanteed to do (including making the combination of everyones creations into one mega creation). In this place, Jesus, Superman, Zeus, and Jimi Hendrix, would be able to tell us the answers that we needed to hear in order to better our lives in the real world. It would lead to world peace and would be soooo totaly coooooool man.
