3/10/09 Frankenstein Project Responses
What do you think of the Frankenstein projects? Write about your favorite ones? Have the projects helped you see anything new or interesting in the novel?
I really liked the assignment in general; it was something different and creative. Personally, I had a blast doing the photo series as my project. While taking the pictures, my understanding of the doppelganger and the alter ego (In Frankenstein personified as the monster) deepened as I captured the outrageous contrast of people’s expressions. My favorites of the class are the paintings—Beau’s frankenstein/yin&yang poster, I saw it as equating and separating the monster and victor, they share a lot in common yet are entirely different beings, Zech’s painting, a blend of colors where the objects in it kind of merge I thought connects with the presence of nature in the novel—and James’ music video, it connects to the story from a completely different angle. Everyone’s interpretation of the story came through their project medium and those perceptions are fun to see.
Most of the projects were very well made. My class mates have a lot of talent. The ones that I seem to like the most though are the stuffed animal monster made by Johnoa and the painting of the monster that was created by Mr. Chado. The stuffed animal is pretty sick cause it makes this weird noise. I also learned alot from the project that I did. I painted a mountian monster scense on a big piece of canves. It was a fun new experence that i will cherish for the rest of my life.
I liked all of the projects in our class. My favorite project was the music video by James Pearlman and James Matsui. I was very creative and i like the rhymes they came up with and how it tied in with the novel. I also like Zechs, Beaus and Dianas. Zechs painting captured the romanticism of the novel. Beaus drawing was very abstract and creative and presented a interesting view of the monster. Dianas photos were interesting and actually conveyed a very creepy side to them. It was cool to see the two different sides of people, one good and one bad. Janoah's doll was also very creative and captured the essence of how the monster was created in the novel. My own project was simple but I didnt create a definite design for the monster because of its ambiguity in the novel.
I thought this project was a fun way to get us to think about the different aspects of the novel. I made a broken heart with one half representing the sweet innocence of the monster BEFORE he became evil-and the other half representing what caused him to turn cruel and all that ... I loved the James's video-it was creative and fun and modern... I always really liked Andrea's video because it brought the core theme of the novel to modern days and a more modern-- more realistic interpretation of it... Everyone seemed to do really creative and thoughtful projects---bravo my lovely classmates-
I really enjoyed this project because it allowed us to visually express our interpretations of the novel. Through this project I acquired the better understanding how society can influence your thoughts. I really enjoyed the music video by James Pearlman and James Matsui. The lyrics and rhymes were awesome. Andrea's modern integration was really cool because it brought the themes from the novel to our modern lifestyle.
This was a really cool project. It was a great way to express ourselves. I liked that they were little rules to what we could do. I learned how to edit a movie, which I've never actually done before. James' and James' Frankenstein music video was so creative. I loved it and the fact that James P. did the bassoon music. I liked Andreas because she used what she loves and incorporated it into her movie. The other ones that I saw were cool too, nice thought put into them!
I really enjoyed the Frankenstein art project. It gave us a chance to express our creativity in a way other than writing. I'd say that the project gave me a deeper understanding into the novel by investigating the point of view of different characters. For example, one of my favorite projects was Lina's painting. She portrayed the monster with a tear, giving an insight into his pain. I also enjoyed the James' movie (it was very entertaining) and Stacy's MAGNIFICENT painting of the cabin scene.
I agree with Diana in that the project was a new way for us to be creative and different. Writing my story was fun and I haven't written anything like it since elementary school (creative writing).
James' video was very unique and fun to watch. I liked his music and dancing. Zech's painting really captured the mountain scene and it looked realistic. The sort of contorted shape of the back of the monster definately fits with the story. Marc's modern frankenstein was creative and interesting, especially the movable parts.
I really liked the project as a whole. It allowed us to explore aspects of the novel in different, and unique ways. For example, in order to do our projects, we needed to connect it to a theme from the novel, which will help us in the long run to remember them. My project was a painting of Victor being followed by the monster in the forest. I really enjoyed Alecia's project, the mosaic, because it was executed to perfection. It was very clear what part in the novel she chose to represent, and she did so in a completely unique way.
I think that all of the Frankenstein projects were very creative and well done. My favorite ones were james's music video and beau's drawing. Beau's drawing embodies the novels greatest theme of dangerous knowledge. He does a perfect job depicting a crazed scientist giving life to the dead. James music video told most of the story in a well written and performed song. It was interesting to see everyones own interpretation of the novel through their projects. I also enjoyed Zech's painting the of the monster along in the icy mountains. This painting shows the monster's loneliness and solitude.
The Frankenstein projects were really cool. I really liked Jame's video, it was a very creative and hilarious way to accurately depict the tragic emotions within the Frankenstein story. I loved Lina's painting, that is amazing. I also really liked Diana's interpretive pictures of the alter ego within a person. This was similar to my Yin Yang project. I wanted to stress the point that (from a psychological point of view) the monster is the "shadow" side (depicted as the Yin) of Victor which he was supressing within himself, but by doing so he was actually pulling him out of himself and placing into his life via the body of his monster. This was a very fun and creative way to express our various points of views on the novel. It was fun seeing everyones creation.
This assignment was probably the most fun I've had doing something for school. It allowed me to express myself fully with no restrictions. Writing and recording our song was so much fun. I'm always writing lics here and there but I've never strung them together like we did to create an actual song. It was really fun working with a steller bass player, Kaile, we had good musical chemistry in writing and putting together the song. Overall, I had a blast and now know whats it's like to put a song together. Everyone's projects were great. All the art pieces were incredible. James' music video was really good. I think everyone put in a lot of effort and it was really enjoyable to see everyone's outstanding projects.
I enjoyed it to some extent, but I did not feel I put my best effort into it, since other classes' projects/homework required more attention (some more than others). James' music video was pretty good, interesting perspective on Frankenstein. They could write a musical on it or something.
Hah. Well, there IS Young Frankenstein the Musical, Trevor.. But regarding music, I (like everyone else) thought the James' video was great. The attention to rhyme, rythm, and storyline was so concise and accurate. In addition to that, I really liked Lina's work--that was really fun to look at and it looked like a huge amount of time and effort had been spent on it.
I really liked this Frankenstein Art Project because it allowed us to show our creative side. It also gave us the liberty to be creative,a nd interrpt an aspect of this novel. I really enjoyed Andreas because it showed an alternitive side of obession. Not it justbeing about science like Victor was, but like athletics too. And revealing the side effects of being obsessed. The lost of friends, feeling alone, etc...
The projects were very well made and I really liked all the art pieces. My favorite would probably have to be Alecia's mosaic. It was original and very creative. Nicole's mobile was another one of my favorites because it was so original. I wanted my project to be unique so I made a video. Which I thought turned out pretty well. All in all I liked the amount of creativity we were allowed to express by doing this project.

We are such a diverse class and this project not only showed how creative we were but we also acomplished the goal of understanding the novel in grater meanings. Kaile and Adrian's project was especially creative because they were able to do a project with their interests. The song was intricate and there was a clear message with the words incorporated into the song which made it more engaging. I also loved Kasen's because he took himself and portraying himself in various emotions just like the monster. The computer graphics were very intresting and the portrait that really caught my eye was the close up of just his face. My journey with the project was quite difficult but by far I really loved drawing and getting to be able to use different mediums to express the themes of Frankenstein because we were all able to relate to the monster and the other characters so much.
i really enjoyed working on his project. it was a lo more fun to do something creative rather than a research paper. i really liked james pearlmean and matsui's music video. the lyrics were very well written and it was very interesting. i also really liked beau's picture of the ying- yang representation of victor and the monster. it was both creative and masterfully drawn.
